Kirin Ichiban Listening Room
with Gilles Peterson
EVENT
An intimate vinyl listening experience in Sydney.

In February 2026, Atlas Harmonic was invited to design the sound system for the Kirin Ichiban Listening Room, hosted by Monster Children at the Ivy Penthouse in Sydney.
The evening brought together a small group of guests for an intimate vinyl listening experience with legendary DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson, who shared selections from his personal record collection while reflecting on nearly five decades in music.
Rather than a traditional DJ set, the format was closer to a live radio broadcast, with Gilles introducing each record and sharing stories behind the music.
For the event, the system paired a Rega Planar 3 RS turntable with a McIntosh C2800 preamplifier, feeding Atlas Harmonic Tufnel loudspeakers and the newly developed Zeus subs.
The goal was to bring the sound of a large club system and marry it with the richness of a smaller hi fi system. Something with big dynamics but also that velvety character you associate with great hi fi.
When Gilles first sat down in front of the system he looked over the setup and smiled, saying
“Damn… it’s going to be hard selecting the albums when everything sounds good.”
It set the tone for the evening. Relaxed, focused, and entirely centred around the music.
Events like the Kirin Ichiban Listening Room demonstrated one thing. People love music and we're here for it.

Listening Sessions with
Gilles Peterson
SoundStage Australia recently covered the Kirin Ichiban Listening Room event hosted at the Ivy Penthouse in Sydney, where legendary DJ Gilles Peterson presented a series of vinyl listening sessions.
The sound system for the evening was curated by Atlas Harmonic, combining Tufnel loudspeakers with newly developed 21-inch subwoofers to deliver a system capable of both high dynamics and refined musical presentation.
The article explores the philosophy behind the system design, the role of large drivers and horn loading, and the growing interest among younger audiences in high-quality listening experiences.

StereoNET Features the Tufnel
StereoNET recently published a feature exploring the design philosophy behind the Atlas Harmonic Tufnel, and its place within Australia’s tradition of loudspeaker design.
The article looks at the broader context of Australian loudspeaker manufacturing and highlights the rarity of small local workshops designing and building large-format horn-loaded systems aimed at the high-end market.
Designed and built in Bondi, Sydney, the Tufnel is a two way high efficiency loudspeaker built around a 15 inch woofer and a 1.4 inch compression driver loaded through Atlas Harmonic’s SK96 constant directivity horn.
The design was developed with a clear goal in mind. To bring the scale and dynamics of a club system into the home while preserving the soundstage, detail and richness associated with high end hi fi.
Each pair is built to order using solid timbers, composite materials and hand finished veneers and leathers, reflecting Atlas Harmonic’s focus on craftsmanship as much as acoustic performance.
The StereoNET article also explores the philosophy behind the project and the decision to pursue a build to order approach rather than large scale production.
