TEMPEST

A contemporary loudspeaker inspired by the optimism and craftsmanship of 1970s hi-fi.

Front view HR.png

Cabinet: Dual-layer construction using high-density board and solid timber, with asymmetrical bracing to control resonance.

Tweeter: Silk dome tweeter with neodymium motor and copper caps, designed for low distortion and stable high-frequency response.

Front: Hammer-tone finish inspired by classic PA systems, providing durability and a defined visual identity.

Woofer: 7.5-inch long-throw driver with papyrus fibre cone, designed for smooth midrange and controlled bass.

Designed to belong

Great design begins with materials that speak for themselves. Through natural timber, tactile finishes and carefully balanced proportions, Tempest brings warmth and character to a space, creating an object that feels timeless, enduring and increasingly rewarding over time.

Unapologetically analogue

Music is most engaging when it feels effortless. Tempest presents recordings with a sense of coherence and ease, allowing instruments, voices and space to come together as a unified whole. This is achieved through a proprietary analogue Time Alignment Network that maintains accurate timing between the woofer and tweeter without relying on digital signal processing.

When technology disappears

The finest listening experiences are the ones where the technology disappears. With its warm tonal balance and natural presentation, Tempest allows music to take centre stage, creating a sense of connection that feels both immediate and enduring. Every aspect of its acoustic and analogue design has been developed in pursuit of this experience.

Crafted by hand

Tempest is made for a lifetime of musical enjoyment. More than a loudspeaker, it is a carefully crafted object that brings together natural materials, enduring craftsmanship and timeless design. Built from solid timbers and finished to age gracefully over time.

Remarkable clarity

The Tempest presents a level of clarity, depth and scale that many compact loudspeakers struggle to achieve. Through the use of carefully selected Satori transducers, advanced motor systems and precision acoustic tuning, it reveals the texture, emotion and character within a recording with remarkable ease.

Metal grille

The metal grille reimagines loudspeaker protection as a decorative element. Its geometric form introduces a modern industrial character, creating a distinctive visual expression that complements the architecture of the loudspeaker.

High Frequency Transducer

1.4inch compression driver coupled to our proprietary horn. Its geometry promotes controlled directivity and smooth dispersion.

Leather

Finished in full-grain leather, the front panel adds durability and softens the visual presence of the cabinet.

Stand

Fabricated from aluminium, providing a rigid foundation and correct listening height.

Low Frequency Transducer

A high-efficiency 15-inch woofer provides extended low-frequency output with minimal distortion, delivering scale and impact without loss of control.

Cabinet

Crafted from solid timber and high-density composite, the enclosure is heavily braced to control resonance and provide a stable acoustic platform.

ENQUIRE

Each Tempest is built to order. To discuss finishes, configuration and availability, please contact us.

The SK96 horn is designed to maintain wide, even dispersion across the listening area. Its geometry is based on an oblate spheroidal expansion, refined to keep off-axis response smooth and predictable. This allows the system to maintain tonal balance and clarity beyond a single listening position.

SK96 HORN

Red Textured Speaker

SK96 HORN

Modern Audio Speaker

The Tufnel is designed to operate as a true full-range loudspeaker in open, architectural environments. High efficiency, controlled dispersion, and cabinet volume allow consistent sound across the room, rather than a single listening position.

A Full-Range System for Larger Spaces

Pricing starts at $20,300 AUD per pair. Production time is 8-12 weeks depending on finish. Each system is built to order. For commissioning enquiries, please submit your details and we will respond personally. Custom finishes and detailing are available to suit the character of the space. DESIGN INTENT

In the 1960s and 70s, speakers were physically large and designed to move air easily. They produced sound with scale and dynamics that smaller systems struggle to reproduce.

Tufnel set out to bring that sense of scale back into a modern loudspeaker. At the same time, it retains the precision expected from contemporary hi-fi.

The result sits between two worlds:

The energy of a club system, and the refinement of a high-fidelity setup.

A FULL-RANGE SYSTEM FOR LARGER SPACES

The Tufnel is designed to operate as a true full-range loudspeaker in open, architectural environments.

High efficiency, controlled dispersion, and cabinet volume allow consistent sound across the room, rather than a single listening position.

DESIGN & MATERIALS

The cabinet is built as a rigid, structural enclosure rather than a lightweight shell.

Solid timber and leather are selected for acoustic performance, durability, and how they wear over time.

Each system is finished by hand, with materials chosen to suit the space it will live in.

15" Low-Frequency Driver

A 15-inch driver provides high displacement with low distortion.

The larger radiating area allows the system to produce bass with weight and headroom, even at lower listening levels.

AVAILABLE  CONFIGURATIONS

Tufnel is available in both active and passive configurations.

Passive
Designed for use with external amplification, including low-powered tube systems.

Active
Integrated amplification and DSP provide crossover control, time alignment, and system protection.
